WHERE

Frodsham

What it’s like

A 1.5 mile obstacle trail with over 40 challenges, an Aqua Park and open water swimming sessions on site near Frodsham.

The main event here is the adventure trail, 1.5 miles of it with more than 40 obstacles strung out around the mere. That's a proper stretch of the legs for anyone old enough to tackle nets, balance beams and whatever else they've built into it, and it's the bit that'll get talked about on the drive home. There's an Aqua Park too, and open water swimming, though that one's only in organised sessions rather than a free-for-all splash whenever you fancy it.

Under-17s need an adult with them at all times on site, and they can go on the same waiver form as the grown-up, which saves some faff at the desk. If you haven't booked ahead, don't assume you'll get straight in on a busy day, they're upfront about that. There's also a watersports holiday club running for kids, if you're after something with a bit more structure than turning up and having a go.

Parking is £3 a car, and on weekdays that's cash only in a coin box, so don't rely on card if you're arriving midweek. It's free if you're already paying for facilities between October and April, which softens the blow in the colder months. The Chameleon Café covers hot and cold drinks and cakes every day, with a fuller seasonal menu from Thursday to Sunday, and there's indoor and outdoor seating if you want to sit down properly afterwards.

Bookings go through the venue's own site rather than anywhere else, which is worth knowing if you go looking for tickets elsewhere and come up empty. Dogs are welcome if yours likes a walk round the mere while you queue for obstacles, and there are party rooms if you're thinking of a birthday here rather than the usual soft play.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book in advance?

You can turn up, but there's no guaranteed admittance on busy days without a booking. Bookings only go through Manley Mere's own website, not third-party sites.

Can under 17s go on the trail without an adult?

No, under 17s must be accompanied by an adult the whole time they're on site.

Do children need their own waiver form?

Minors under 17 can be added to an adult's waiver form rather than filling in their own.

What's parking like?

It's £3 a car, cash only in a coin box on weekdays and card machine at weekends and holidays. If you're paying for facilities between October and April, parking is free.

Is there anywhere to eat?

The Chameleon Café does hot and cold drinks and cakes every day, with a full seasonal menu Thursday to Sunday.

Can we swim whenever we like?

Open water swimming only happens in organised sessions, so it's not a case of jumping in whenever you fancy it.

What's the Day Pass Guest Band for?

It's £5 per person for anyone staying on site without a booking who isn't using the café or the activities, so it doesn't get you into the trail or swimming.

Can we bring the dog?

The site is dog friendly, so a walk round the mere works while the kids take on the trail.
