What it’s like
Free contemporary art and craft exhibitions to wander round, with a craft shop and café to round off the visit.
You wander round changing exhibitions of contemporary art and craft, then browse the shop where Welsh makers sell their work. It's free to get in, so there's no ticket to buy or session to book, and you can pop in for ten minutes or stay for an hour depending on how the exhibition grabs you. There are workshops and art clubs too, which is a nice reason to come back rather than treating it as a one-off.
The building's easy to get round if you've got a buggy or need step-free access, with a ramp through to the bus station behind it and an accessible parking space on site, though that on-site parking is limited. The main car park is a five-minute walk away at Glyndwr and it's free, which takes the sting out of visiting somewhere that doesn't charge admission anyway.
The café is where you'd want to build a visit around timing-wise. It does breakfast and lunch with seasonal, local produce, plus soups, jacket potatoes and sweet treats, but last food orders are 2:30pm even though the café itself runs till quarter past three. Get there before then if lunch is the plan.
It's shut on bank holidays, and everything, exhibitions, shop and café, keeps to the same Monday to Saturday pattern. If you're coming by train or bus it's an easy walk, with the station about ten minutes away and the bus station right behind the building.
