What it’s like

Bouldering and an auto climb wall for kids from age three, with walk-in sessions and no time limit on your visit.

The bouldering here is the main event, low walls over thick matting so a three-year-old can have a go without a harness and without you having a heart attack watching. Once they've got the hang of that there's an auto climb wall, and for older kids who fancy the real thing there's a Learn The Ropes course and a Learn To Lead course if they want to work up to proper roped climbing.

Day entry is £11.50 for under-18s and £12.50 for adults, which adds up fast if you're bringing more than one climber, and that's before shoe hire at £3.50 or the full kit package at £6 if nobody owns their own gear. There's no booking system, you just walk in, though they do want you to watch an induction video and sign a waiver on your first visit, so build in a few extra minutes before anyone touches the wall.

Opening hours are generous, 10 till 10 on weekdays and 10 till 8 at weekends, and bank holidays run as normal. That flexibility is handy if you're trying to dodge the after-school rush or fancy a Sunday morning session before the place fills up. It's an indoor centre, so it's one for the list when the forecast's grim and the kids need somewhere to climb the walls, literally.

Age three is the stated minimum for bouldering, but the ropes courses will suit the older ones who've outgrown the low walls and want more of a challenge. It's worth knowing your birthday gets you free day entry, which is a nice touch if you time a visit right.

Walk-ins welcome. Pre-registration available
Worth knowing
Free day entry on your birthday
  • First visit means an induction video and a waiver before anyone climbs, so don't turn up five minutes before you need to leave
  • Shoe and harness hire are separate charges from entry, so factor that in if you haven't got your own
  • Weekday evenings run later than weekends, useful if after-school clubs finish late
  • Free day entry on your birthday is worth timing a visit around

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£11.50 for under-18s and concessions, £12.50 for adults on a day entry. Shoe hire is £3.50 and the full equipment package is £6 if you need everything.

Do we need to book?

No, walk-ins are welcome. First-timers do need to watch an induction video and sign a waiver, so it's not instant.

What age can kids start climbing?

Three and up for bouldering. Older kids can move onto the Learn The Ropes and Learn To Lead courses.

What are the opening hours?

10am to 10pm on weekdays, 10am to 8pm at weekends. Bank holidays keep the regular hours.

Is bouldering safe for a nervous beginner?

It's done at low heights over thick matting rather than up on ropes, and instructors are on hand throughout.

Do we need our own kit?

You can hire shoes, a harness, a belay device and a chalk bag separately, or get the full package for £6.

Is there anything free?

Day entry is free on your birthday.
