Freeklime Huddersfield

What it’s like

An indoor bouldering centre where kids tackle graded problems on the walls and can join proper climbing classes.

Bouldering is the whole point here. The walls are set up with problems across multiple grade ranges, so a kid having their first go and one who's been climbing for years both get something to work on without getting bored or stuck. There's no rope or harness faff either, which for a first-timer is one less thing to get in a strain about.

If your child wants to get properly good at it rather than just have a scramble, there are kids' climbing classes on offer. That's the better route if you know you'll be back more than once, rather than turning up cold and hoping the walls make sense on their own.

There's a café on site for the inevitable post-climb refuel, and an indoor play element too if you've got a younger one in tow who isn't quite ready for the boulder walls. Booking is done online and the site makes a point of saying it's easy, so it's worth sorting before you turn up rather than chancing it at the desk.
