What it’s like
A three hour Bob Ross style oil painting class in Cardiff where you leave with your own 12" x 16" landscape canvas.
This one's an adults' studio session, best suited to 16 and over, so leave the kids with someone else and treat this as your own afternoon out. You're painting a landscape using the Bob Ross wet-on-wet oil technique, working on a 12" x 16" canvas for around three hours, and everything you need is provided, brushes, paints, the lot.
£65 gets you the full session, which feels steep until you factor in that you're walking out with an actual painting rather than a Pinterest screenshot. It goes home in a protective box so it doesn't smudge on the journey back, though it's only touch dry after about a week and takes a full three months to properly cure, so it wants a spot on the wall where nobody's going to lean on it too soon.
Oil paint stains, and the studio says so plainly, so wear old clothes or bring an apron rather than risk your good jumper. Tea, coffee and water are on hand while you paint. The only real catch is the cancellation policy: there are no refunds, only rescheduling, so if your afternoon plans are the slightest bit wobbly, call ahead rather than assume you can just skip it.
