What it’s like

Adult art courses in Cardiff covering drawing, colour mixing and impressionist painting, taught over three-hour sessions.

This is a proper course, not a one-off paint-and-sip evening. Over a series of three-hour sessions you work through drawing from scratch, mixing your own paint colours, and building up texture and light before tackling impressionist painting. It's aimed at adults who want to actually learn the skills rather than just leave with a finished canvas.

Cardiff is one of the Cardiff studio's locations, and the venue is part of a wider network that runs the same curriculum in other towns and online, so the price you pay depends partly on where you book. Daytime classes run from £300 up to £370, evening classes from £250 to £325, and if you'd rather learn from home the online interactive option is £75 to £144 depending on the course length and whether materials are included. None of that is pocket change, so it's worth thinking of it as a proper hobby investment rather than a casual afternoon out.

You can pick a morning start at 9:30am, an afternoon one at 1:30pm, or an evening class at 7pm, which gives a bit of flexibility if you're working around a job or childcare. Courses start throughout the year and each one varies in length. One nice touch is that the curriculum changes for each course, so if you finish one and fancy going again, you'll be given different projects rather than repeating what you've just done.

Booking is either by phone or through the website, and there's no drop-in option mentioned.
