What it’s like

Bouldering, gym and padel for teenagers and adults, with under-14s limited to the café.

This is a climbing and fitness set-up for teenagers upwards, not a kids' soft play with a wall bolted on. There's bouldering and climbing, a fitness gym, and padel courts if racket sports are more your teenager's thing. Under-14s aren't allowed to climb at all, they can only come along for the café or the padel club, so this one's a non-starter for younger children.

If you've got a 14 to 16 year-old keen to climb, you can supervise up to two of them, but only if you're a registered climber yourself, which is a faff if you're not already into it. There's no time limit once you're in on a Day Pass, and you can even leave and come back the same day without paying again, so a session doesn't have to be rushed. Shoes and chalk aren't included though, £3 and £2 on top, and only free if you're a university student, which stings a bit for everyone else.

You don't need to book ahead, but first-timers have to watch the induction video and fill out an online waiver before they turn up, so build that into your plan rather than discovering it at the door. There's a café on site and lockers if you want to leave bags out of the way, and opening hours stretch from 7am on weekdays, which is generous if you fancy an early session before school or work.

Dogs aren't allowed inside, service dogs excepted, so leave the family dog at home on this one.

Plan your visit

How old do kids need to be to climb?

Under-14s can't climb here at all. They're welcome in the café or the padel club, but the wall and gym are 14 and up.

Can a 14 or 15 year-old climb on their own?

No, they need supervising by an adult who's a registered climber at the centre, and one adult can only supervise two of that age at a time.

Do we need to book?

You can just turn up. First timers do need to watch the induction video and fill out the online waiver beforehand though.

Is there a time limit on a session?

None at all. A Day Pass lets you climb and use the gym for as long as you like, and you can even leave and come back the same day for free.

Do you need your own shoes and chalk?

You can hire them on site, £3 for shoes and £2 for chalk. It's free if you're a university student, otherwise it's an extra cost each visit.
