What it’s like
A free pirate-themed splash pad with jet sprays and a slide, plus play areas and a skate park in the country park around it.
The splash pad is the big draw here and it costs nothing to use. There's a pirate ship in the middle, jet sprays, boulders to clamber over, a splash slide and a water table, so you can let a toddler potter about the shallow bits while an older one chases the jets.
It only runs May to September, 10am to 6pm, so this isn't a year-round trip. The park itself is open much longer, 9am to 8pm or dusk, so outside the splash season there's still the junior and toddler play area with a zip wire, basket swings and a climbing frame, an under-12s football pitch and a skate park to fall back on. There's woodland and butterfly meadow walks too if you fancy stretching the visit out with a proper walk.
Food-wise there's a café off the Doncaster Road entrance doing a full menu, and a kiosk at Church Street for ice creams, hot and cold snacks and drinks if you just want something quick between the splash pad and the play area. Worth knowing the splash pad's hours can shift at short notice for maintenance or bad weather, so a soaking wet forecast might scupper it even in season.
