What it’s like

Wheel-throwing and hand-building pottery sessions for families, beginners welcome, in Marsh Mill Village.

You get your hands properly muddy here. The studio runs beginner wheel-throwing classes and hand-building sessions, plus family-friendly pottery slots where you sit down together and work the clay rather than watch someone else do it. Nobody's expected to have done this before, which takes the pressure off if you're bringing a child who's never touched a pottery wheel and might spend the first ten minutes just getting clay everywhere.

There's no set age range given, so it's worth thinking about how patient your child is with something slow and a bit messy. Wheel-throwing especially takes a steady hand, and hand-building might suit a fidgety seven-year-old better than the wheel does. Either way, this isn't a quick in-and-out session, pottery takes the time it takes.

It's based at Unit 15 in Marsh Mill Village, Thornton-Cleveleys, with free on-site parking for everyone coming to a class, which is one less thing to think about on the day. If you want more than the regular sessions, they also do private group bookings, useful for a birthday or a get-together, arranged by email or phone rather than through an online booking system.
