What it’s like
A local pool for swimming lessons, family splash sessions and an inflatable obstacle course for the over-eights.
Swimming is the main event here, and it covers a fair bit of ground. There's junior swim, family sessions, and lessons for the ones still working out which end is up. Under-3s swim free, which is a nice touch if you've got a baby you're trying to get water-confident early.
The bit that'll actually get talked about on the way home is the Inflatable Fun Session, an obstacle course set up for ages 8 and over. It's not for the little ones, so if you've got a mixed-age group you might end up splitting the visit, but it's the sort of thing an eight-year-old will ask to do again the following weekend.
There's also a gym and fitness classes running junior and adult sessions side by side, so if you've got an older kid who's past splashing about and more into proper workouts, that's covered too. Prices are sensible rather than cheap: junior swim is £3.15, adult casual swim £6.60, and the gym and fitness classes sit around £4.40 for juniors and £8.10 for adults.
Booking isn't required, you just turn up, though they're clear that sessions fill on a first come first served basis so getting there fifteen minutes early is the difference between getting in and not. Hours stretch from 7am on weekdays through to a shorter Saturday and Sunday window, and it's worth knowing bank holidays and the festive period shift the times around.
