What it’s like

A rock and soul choir in Norwich for over-10s, singing in a group two evenings a week with no music-reading required.

This is a group choir built around rock and soul songs, meeting twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. It's aimed at those over 10, and the site is upfront that anyone under 12 needs an adult with them, which is worth knowing before you plan a solo drop-off for a younger sibling tagging along.

You don't need to read music or have sung before. The site says most members turned up with no musical ability at all and the sessions are built around getting everyone singing as part of the group rather than picking out soloists, so it's a low-pressure way in if your teenager fancies trying it but is nervous about being put on the spot.

Booking is required rather than a nice-to-have. They're strict about it, since turning up unannounced risks landing on a night the choir isn't running, and booking ahead means the tutors know to bring the right resources and can send parking and arrival details in advance. The first two sessions are free for new members. There's a car park at the back of the venue, which takes the stress out of an evening session in the dark.

Sign-ups are paused while the site and booking system get updated, with things expected to be back running by the end of September.

What age is this suitable for?

The teaching level suits over-10s, and anyone under 12 needs to be accompanied by an adult.

Do you need to be able to sing or read music?

No reading music required. Most members joined with no musical background and the sessions are built around group singing rather than solo performance.

Do we need to book a taster session or can we just turn up?

Booking is strongly recommended. It means the tutors know you're coming, can bring the right resources, and can send you parking and arrival details, plus it means you won't turn up on a night the choir isn't running.

Is there parking?

There's a dedicated car park at the back of the venue.
