Waterloo Park Pavilion Café - The Feed
WHERE
Norwich
What it’s like
A café in Waterloo Park with a toddler play corner indoors and a splash pad and playground just outside for summer.
This one's really a café that happens to sit right by a playground, which makes it useful rather than exciting. Inside there's a play area kitted out with toys and books for toddlers, so you can get a coffee while a small one pulls books off a low shelf near you. Out the door is the park's playground, and in summer a splash pad goes on, which is the bit that'll actually get remembered on a hot day.
Food is homemade rather than pre-packaged: toasted sandwiches, jacket potatoes, sausage rolls (some vegan) and cakes. Breakfast runs until 11.15am and cooked lunches from 12 to 2pm, so turning up at 11.30 hoping for a full lunch is going to leave you disappointed with a sandwich instead. Table bookings only work Monday to Friday, one per service per day, and weekends are turn-up-and-hope, which is a bit of a faff if you had your heart set on a Saturday brunch.
Access is properly thought through. There's level access into the café from the park and from the car park, and the drop-off gate can be unlocked, which matters if you've got a buggy or wheels and don't fancy a battle with kerbs. Dogs on leads are welcome in the café too.
Parking is free, off Angel Road, about five minutes' walk away, which is a proper stretch with a toddler in tow but fine if you're not in a rush.
