What it’s like
Free-fall in a vertical wind tunnel for about a minute a flight, no plane or parachute required, from age 3 up.
You get kitted out in a flight suit and helmet, then step into a vertical wind tunnel where an instructor holds you steady while you get the closest thing to skydiving without leaving the ground. Each flight only lasts around 55 seconds, which sounds short until you remember that's about how long the real thing lasts too. Kids from age 3 can fly, as long as they can wear one of the helmets comfortably, so this works for a genuinely wide age range in one room.
Budget the whole morning or afternoon rather than just the flight time. They ask everyone to arrive 45 minutes early for the briefing and kit, and you're looking at roughly an hour and a half on site once it's all done. That's a lot of waiting around for under a minute of actual flying, but the training and getting suited up is part of the experience rather than dead time, and there's usually a chance to watch other flyers before your go.
Prices start at £29.99 for two flights on the offer, with four-flight and ten-flight packages if you want to split the cost across a group, useful if you've got a few kids or a birthday party to sort. There's a flat £3 booking fee on top of whatever you book, worth factoring in when you're comparing packages. Under-18s need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver and be on hand, and if any flyer has additional needs it is best to flag that well before the day rather than turning up and hoping.
Parking at the Basingstoke centre is free, which is one less thing to think about. The one real catch is timing: turn up late and you lose your slot with no refund, so build in extra time for the drive over.

You will not be able to fly and there are no refunds for missed slots, so leave plenty of time to get there.
