Denton

What it’s like

A free patch of woodland in Denton to wander, spot birds and let the kids climb over roots and logs.

There's no entry fee here, which makes it an easy one to say yes to on a spare afternoon. It's a proper bit of woodland rather than a manicured park, so you're looking at paths through trees, dappled light and whatever wildlife happens to be about that day. Kids who like poking about in undergrowth or spotting birds will find plenty to keep them busy without anyone needing to plan much.

It suits a wander more than a destination day out. There's nothing to book and nothing to pay. Bring your own snacks and drinks, since this isn't the sort of place with a café to fall back on.

It's an outdoor spot through and through, so a dry day makes it a much nicer visit than a wet one. There isn't a big attraction to build the day around, more a stretch of nature to explore at your own pace, which is exactly the point for some families and a bit thin for others.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Nothing, it's free to get in.

Do we need to book?

No booking here, just turn up.

Is there food on site?

Not that's listed, so pack your own snacks and a flask.

Is it suitable for a toddler?

It's woodland paths and natural ground rather than a play area, so it depends on how far your toddler's happy to walk.
