What it’s like
Free woodland walk on maintained paths, with ancient trees and wildlife to spot along the way.
This is a walk through proper old woodland, not a landscaped park with a café bolted on. The paths are maintained, so a buggy or scooter will cope, and the draw is the woodland itself: ancient trees that dwarf the kids, and the kind of wildlife spotting that works whether you've got a checklist or not.
There's no set route pushed on you and no entry fee, so it's an easy one to slot into a free afternoon without booking anything or working round a session time. Younger kids will happily potter along the path looking for bugs and birds, while older ones can be sent off to find the oldest looking tree or count squirrels.
Don't go expecting play equipment or a shop. The site lists outdoor play as the main amenity, so this is a walking and looking sort of visit rather than one built around climbing frames. That's no bad thing if you want somewhere without an entry queue or a gift shop at the end.
Facilities
Plan your visit
Is it free to visit?
Yes, there's no entry charge.
Do we need to book?
No booking here, you just turn up.
What is there for the kids to actually do?
Walk the footpaths, look out for wildlife and take in some genuinely old trees. It's a looking and exploring visit rather than a playground one.
Is the path buggy friendly?
The footpaths are maintained, which should suit a buggy or scooter, though it's still woodland underfoot.
