What it’s like

A free outdoor play area tacked onto a garden centre café, handy for breaking up a shopping trip with the kids.

There's an outdoor play area here that costs nothing to use, which makes this an easy add-on if you're already heading to the garden centre for compost and hanging baskets. It's not a big attraction in its own right, more a way to keep the kids occupied while you have a wander round or grab a coffee.

The café is the other half of the equation and it's a proper one, not an afterthought. Breakfast runs until 11:15am, then it's hot lunches, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and paninis, with kids' lunch boxes on the menu too. They do a decent stretch of gluten-free cakes as well, carrot cake, red velvet, banoffee, so it's not just the kids who get looked after. No bookings needed, they say the dining area has plenty of seating, which is one less thing to plan around.

Dogs are welcome and there's an allocated dining area for owners, so if the dog's coming along for the ride that's sorted. Parking's free and on-site, which takes the edge off what can otherwise be a fiddly trip with a buggy and bags of compost in tow.

Worth knowing the café hours can shift in winter and it may close during quieter periods, so a January weekday visit might look different to a bright Saturday in June. Opening hours are 9 to 5.30 Monday to Saturday and 10 to 4 on Sundays.
