Hickory's Smokehouse York
WHERE
York
What it’s like
A smokehouse restaurant with a brunch menu running until 2pm daily, and a booking system that holds a few walk-in tables too.
This one's really a restaurant rather than a soft play centre, so don't turn up expecting a ball pit and a slide. The draw here is the food: proper American barbecue smokehouse cooking, with a brunch menu that runs every day until 2pm if you're after something lighter earlier in the day.
Booking's not compulsory but they clearly want you to do it. You can book online for up to 10 people, and anything bigger than that goes through as an enquiry with a reply inside 24 hours. If you haven't booked, they do hold back a few tables for walk-ins, though they're upfront that there's no guarantee you'll get seated.
If someone's celebrating, say so when you book. They'll put a celebration board on the table and the birthday person gets a free doughnut, and you're welcome to bring your own cake for the host to bring out. Opening hours stretch late, especially at the weekend when they're open from 10am right up to 11pm, so there's room to plan around a quieter mid-afternoon slot rather than squeezing in before a dinner rush.

Do we need to book?
It's not compulsory, but they recommend it. Walk-ins get a few spare tables when there's space, with no guarantee.
What if there are more than 10 of us?
You'll need to send a booking enquiry rather than book directly, and they'll get back to you within 24 hours with availability.
What time can we get brunch?
Brunch is on every day until 2pm.
Can we celebrate a birthday there?
Yes, mention it when you book and they'll add a celebration board plus a free doughnut for whoever's celebrating. You can bring your own cake too.
