What it’s like

Swimming lessons from baby splash classes to competitive squads, plus mermaid sessions and Saturday inflatable parties.

This is a proper swim school rather than a splash-about pool, though the youngest ones still get their turn. Tiny Swimmers takes babies from 3 months up to age 3, with a parent in the water alongside them, and runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Once they hit 3, kids move into the afternoon and evening classes, where you watch from the side instead, working up from non-swimmers through to diving and life saving, and even competitive training for the ones who take to it.

The bit most kids will bang on about afterwards is the mermaid sessions, which pop up in the school holidays and turn a normal lesson into something closer to a costume party in the water. There's also lane swimming if you fancy doing your own lengths while the kids are elsewhere in the building.

Evening classes run Monday to Friday plus all day Saturday, and the place is closed on Sundays, so that's one day off the calendar if you're trying to fit lessons round a busy week. Private family swim sessions are a school holiday only thing, worth grabbing if you want the pool without an audience. Saturday afternoons between 4:30 and 6:30 are given over to inflatable or mermaid parties, which is a fun way to mark a birthday if your child already loves the water. They take cash or card, and there are toilets on site.
