What it’s like

Weekly dance classes in Stoke-on-Trent from age 2 up, covering everything from ballet and hip hop to musical theatre and SEND sessions.

This is a proper dance school setup rather than a drop-in soft play type of thing: weekly classes running Monday to Friday evenings, with toddlers from age 2 through to adults. The list of styles is long, jazz, commercial, contemporary, musical theatre, singing, hip hop, street, ballet, heels, so there's room for a child to try a couple of things before settling on a favourite. There are SEND classes too, which not every local dance school bothers with.

Classes start from £4.50, though what you actually pay depends on which class and how many your child does. There's a £20 joining fee on top, and fees are paid monthly in advance rather than per session, which is worth knowing before you commit to a term. If you leave and want to come back later, that joining fee gets charged again.

For the under-5s, parents don't stay in the room, your toddler goes off with the teacher while you watch from the designated viewing area instead. Some kids take to that straight away; others need a class or two to settle. New students can try a class free before joining, but you do need to book the trial ahead since classes fill up.

One practical snag: the building's on the first floor with stairs only. Parking is on the side roads, and they're pretty clear that you shouldn't block driveways or park on Prior Close, so leave a bit of extra time to find a spot and walk round.
