What it’s like
Free shallow paddling pool in Congleton, open all summer in two-hour sessions with no booking needed.
It does exactly what a paddling pool should: shallow water, splashing about, nothing deep enough to worry about. It's free to get in, which for a summer's day out is hard to argue with, and it's open daily through the school holidays plus Wednesday to Sunday in term time.
The catch is the session structure. You get 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm, and everyone has to leave the site between times so it can be cleaned, so don't plan on drifting in and out all day. Capacity's capped at 140, and once that's hit a queue forms in a waiting area until someone leaves, which is worth knowing if you're turning up right on opening with a toddler who's already had enough of waiting in the car.
There's no booking system any more, it's just turn up and see if there's space. Wednesday mornings are the exception, that slot's reserved for Ruby's SEND session and needs registering in advance, then the pool reopens as normal from 2pm. Wheelchair access is a ramp straight into the facility, and there's a picnic space if you want to bring your own food, just no glass.
Parking's the other thing to sort before you go. Park Road itself is residential with restricted parking, so the town centre car parks are the better bet, especially in the summer holidays when this is clearly the spot everyone's had the same idea about.
