What it’s like

Sixty minutes on 24 themed climbing walls, with a leap-and-catch trapeze challenge if you want to fork out extra.

The main event is 24 themed climbing walls, including the Giants Staircase, and you get an hour on the clock to get round as many as you fancy. If your kid's the sort who needs a bigger dare, there's the Leap of Faith too, climbing up to a platform, jumping off and trying to grab a swinging trapeze bag. That's not included in the £14 entry though, it's £3.50 for one go or £5.50 for unlimited attempts, so decide before you're stood there being asked twice.

Sessions run through the week at 4:30pm, 5:45pm and 7pm, with a lot more choice at weekends from 9am onward, and school holidays add extra slots on top. An hour sounds short but for a first-timer aged four it's probably about right before arms give out. Spaces are limited and the site says sessions can fill up, so booking ahead makes sense rather than turning up and hoping.

Kit rules are strict but sensible: no open-toe shoes, no jewellery or watches, and phones stay off you while you're climbing, so empty your pockets before you queue. Lockers are provided if you've come straight from school with bags in tow. Parents can go into the arena with their child for free, you just have to sit through the safety video first, which is fair enough given what's on offer.

Birthday parties get the same 24 walls and Leap of Faith challenge, and if your kids get properly hooked there's an Energise Pass for unlimited climbing across the site, including The Hill for skiing. Worth asking about if this becomes a regular Saturday thing.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£14 per climber for the session. The Leap of Faith is extra, £3.50 for one attempt or £5.50 for unlimited goes.

How long do we get?

Sessions are 60 minutes. Weekdays there are three slots, weekends have six, and school holidays add more.

Do we need to book?

Booking ahead is recommended since sessions can fill up quickly. Walk-ups are allowed if there's space left.

What age is it suitable for?

The minimum age is 4. An hour of climbing suits younger kids fine as a first go, but the walls and Leap of Faith give older ones plenty to aim for too.

What should my child wear?

Trainers rather than open-toe shoes, hair tied back, and no jewellery, watches or phones while climbing. Hoodies need hoods tucked in or taken off.

Can I go in and watch?

Yes, parents can go into the climbing arena for free, but you'll need to watch the safety video first.

Are lockers available?

Lockers are at reception and in the climbing area, so bags and coats aren't a problem.

Do you do birthday parties?

Parties get the 24 themed walls and the Leap of Faith challenge as part of the package.
