What it’s like
A free splash pad, a climber and swings on a recreation ground, with a purpose built barbecue if you fancy making a day of it.
This is a straightforward park visit that turns into a proper afternoon once the splash pad's running. It opens from May half term through to the start of September, 10 till 5 on weekdays and 11 till 5 at weekends, and that's the bit kids will remember, especially if you time a hot day right.
Outside the splash pad season there's still plenty to keep smaller ones busy: a climber, swings, and a DDA roundabout that means wheelchair users aren't left out of the spinning. There's also a bit of outdoor exercise equipment if anyone wants to have a go while the kids are on the climber, which is a nice touch even if most adults will only manage a couple of stretches before getting distracted.
It's free to get in, which makes the whole thing an easy yes on a weekend when you don't want to plan much. Picnic tables are dotted around, and there's a purpose built barbecue you don't need to book, so it's worth packing something to cook rather than just sandwiches if the weather's decent.
There's no booking system for any of it, first come first served, which suits a spontaneous trip better than one you've planned three weeks in advance.

Do we need to book anything?
No, there's no booking link for the ground or the splash pad. Turn up and see what's free.
Can we bring a picnic or barbecue?
