WHERE

Dunbar

What it’s like

A ropes course over water, wakeboarding and an aqua park, plus a sauna and cold plunge for the grown-ups afterwards.

This is a water and wobble kind of place. The big one to save for last is FoxFall, which the site calls the UK's first ropes course over water, so falling in is part of the fun rather than a disaster. Beyond that there's an Aqua Park to scramble across, wakeboarding, and Ringos if your idea of a good time is being dragged across a lake at speed.

If you fancy open water swimming that's on offer too, and once everyone's cold and soggy there's a Hot Fox Sauna and cold plunge to warm back up in, which sounds like it's aimed more at the parents than the kids. It's an active, outdoorsy visit rather than a sit-and-watch one, so pack a change of clothes and expect everyone to come home smelling of lake.

Food is sorted on site at Jay Bird's Larder, a café doing daily and bespoke menus with locally sourced, home-cooked food. Getting there without a car means a ten-minute taxi from Dunbar train station, or you can come in on East Coast Buses or the National Cycle Network if you're feeling energetic before you've even started.
