What it’s like
Free park with swings, a skatepark, tennis courts and an obstacle course for kids up to about 12.
This is a proper all-rounder of a park rather than one big attraction. There's the usual swings, slides and climbing frames, but also an obstacle course, ride-on items and sensory boards for the younger ones who want something a bit different from a standard slide. Older kids get a skatepark, a basketball court, tennis courts and football pitches, so a nine-year-old on a scooter and a toddler on a ride-on can both be happy at the same time without anyone standing around bored.
It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to say yes to on a Tuesday afternoon with no plan. There's no booking involved either, you just turn up. The café is open 9:30am to 4pm daily, doing hot and cold drinks, snacks and pastries from local bakeries, and there's indoor seating if the weather turns while you're mid-picnic outside.
It suits kids up to around 12, with enough spread between the sensory boards and the skatepark that you're not dragging a bored teenager round a baby playground. Picnics are allowed if you'd rather bring your own food and just use the café for a coffee top-up, and there's blue badge parking and toilets on site.
