What it’s like
Free park with a hedge maze, mini golf, a model railway and a playground, plus woods and meadows to wander through.
There's a proper mix here rather than just a playground and a car park. The hedge maze and historic gardens are the obvious draw, but the model railway and mini golf give you something to do once you've found your way out, and the orienteering course is a nice excuse to actually explore the arboretum and woodlands instead of just cutting through them.
It's free to get in, which makes it easy to just turn up for an hour or stretch it to an afternoon if the weather's playing along. The playground covers the younger ones while anyone older heads off to the maze or has a go at the mini golf. Ponds and wildflower meadows are dotted through the grounds, so a walk here doesn't feel like a straight loop back to the car.
Opening hours stretch right out in summer, 8am to 10pm, which is generous if you fancy an evening wander after tea. Winter's more sensible, 8am to 5:30pm. There's a café on site and free parking, and dogs are welcome if yours needs the walk as much as the kids need the maze.
Nothing here needs booking. It's the sort of park you can turn up to on a whim, park for free, and let the kids pick between the maze, the golf and the playground while you find the café.

Do we need to book?
No, there's no booking link listed. You just turn up.
Is there parking?
There's a free car park on site.
What's there for younger kids versus older ones?
The playground suits the smaller ones, while the hedge maze, mini golf and orienteering course give older kids something more to get their teeth into.
Can we bring the dog?
It's dog friendly, so a walk round the arboretum and meadows works for the whole lead-holding contingent.
What are the opening hours?
8am to 10pm in summer, 8am to 5:30pm in winter.
