What it’s like

Pick a piece, slap on the paint and come back a month later to collect your own vase, teapot or piggybank.

You choose a blank piece of pottery, a piggybank, a vase, a teapot, maybe a little princess figure, and paint it however you like. Prices start at £9 for the smallest bits and climb to £32 for the bigger pieces, so it's easy to keep a table of kids busy without anyone reaching for the priciest item in the studio. There's also a baby footprint or puppy pawprint session if you fancy a keepsake rather than a painted pot, though that one's email only and runs weekday mornings and afternoons.

The catch is the wait. Whatever you paint gets fired and glazed, and that takes about four weeks, longer if you land on a school holiday when the kiln's got a queue. It's a proper delayed gratification exercise for a child who wants their piggybank right now, but it does mean the finished thing arrives as a nice surprise weeks later. Just don't leave it too long, uncollected pieces after eight weeks get destroyed or sold on for charity, which seems harsh until you remember they can't store everyone's teapots forever.

Booking's not compulsory, walk-ins get a seat if there's space, but they'll ask for a £5.50 deposit per person to hold a table and it's not refundable if you don't turn up. Turn up more than half an hour late and you lose both the table and the deposit. It's card only, no cash, and there's a café on site doing toasties and milkshakes if painting a vase works up an appetite.

Birthday parties run any day of the week at £22.95 a head with food included, and there are grown-up options too, group sessions with sharing boards and bubbles, or a three-hour team building slot with unlimited coffee. Dogs are welcome in the studio, which is a nice touch if you're bringing more than just the kids.
