What it’s like
A darts bar with tech-scored games, adults-only most of the week but open to families in daytime sessions.
This is a darts bar with a twist: the oche has a screen above it running the rules, so you don't need to know your doubles from your trebles. Social Darts covers seven multiplayer games and everyone gets a turn, whether they're a regular player or holding a dart for the first time. There's an oche-cam too, so the game gets captured and emailed to you the next day, which is a nice touch if someone lands a lucky shot.
The catch for families is timing. Anyone 12 and up can play, but only Sunday to Friday until 4:30pm, and only in a family session with an adult alongside. From 4:30pm on weekdays and all day Saturday it switches to adults-only, so this isn't a place you can turn up to on a Saturday afternoon with the kids in tow. If you're going as a family, get there earlier in the day and check which games are running.
Social Darts is £9 a head, and walk-ins are allowed but not guaranteed at busy times, so booking ahead is the safer bet. Once the day gets going and groups get bigger, they ask for a minimum of four guests from 4pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, rising to six from Wednesday through Saturday, so a small family group might get squeezed out later on. Food covers pizzas, sharing plates and canapés, with vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan options, and lunch runs on weekdays until 3pm.
If it's a birthday, they'll sort a little treat if you mention it when booking, and balloons are fine as long as they stay well away from the board. Banners on the walls are a no. Access is worth a thought too: some venues have limited wheelchair access, and while there's a powered stair climber, it isn't suitable for anyone who can't stand unaided.
