What it’s like
Working dairy near Melton - calves, tractor ride and milking gallery. Birthday tours from £10pp; under-3s free. Pre-book only.
Farmer Barnes Dairy at Alma Bank Farm, Somerby is a real working dairy - hug a calf when they are in, hop the tractor and trailer across the fields, then watch milking from the Cow Classroom windows or upstairs gallery. Milk here goes to Long Clawson for Blue Stilton; tea, home-baked cakes and Stilton tasting usually round off the tour.
This is not a turn-up farm park. Every visit is pre-arranged: children's Farm Birthday Tours any day by arrangement (£10 per person for adults and children 3+, under-3s free), weekday group tours 14:30-17:00 (min 20 / max 40, tea and cakes included from £25pp), and school visits year-round. Book by email or phone/text 07854 651580.
Honest notes: calf cuddles are seasonal, stairs to the upstairs gallery (ground-floor windows available), and Melton / Somerby is a Leicester day-trip north-east rather than city-centre. Soft play: none - outdoor working farm and educational dairy focus.
