What it’s like

Cinema screenings built round babies and toddlers, with the sound down and the lights kept low so nobody has to sit still.

This is a proper cinema that has actually thought about what happens when you bring a baby or a toddler along. Baby Club is for under-12-months, sound turned down, lighting kept soft, and a hot drink and cake or popcorn thrown into the ticket price. Toddler Club covers ages 1 to 5, same reduced sound and dimmed lights, seating allocated, and again that drink and snack included. Outside of those dedicated slots, babies under 12 months can go into any U or PG film before 5pm free of charge, though the site is honest that the sound levels might not suit tiny ears and staff can ask you to leave if things get disruptive.

Relaxed Screenings are worth knowing about too: no trailers, lights on low throughout, reduced volume, and freedom to move around and make noise. That last bit matters if you've got a child who can't sit through ninety minutes of a normal screening. During school holidays there's also Family Film Club, with off-peak timings and child tickets at half price, no limit on how many kids get the discount.

The catches are worth flagging before you book. Babies aren't allowed in after 5pm at all, so evening plans with a newborn are out. Booking online or by phone adds a £2.50 fee per transaction, which you can dodge by buying at the cinema in person or by becoming a member. And every booking is non-refundable, though they will exchange your ticket for a different time if you sort it more than 24 hours before the screening.

Food comes from the bar and Spielburger kitchen, doing burgers, hot food, snacks and desserts, with waiter service to your seat if you fancy not queuing at the counter. The building has step-free access and wheelchair-friendly spaces, and there's a CEA Card scheme so a companion goes free. Buggies need to stay clear of fire escape routes, and on busier screenings there may not be room for them inside, so you might end up leaving it outside the auditorium.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book ahead?

You don't have to, but they recommend it to avoid missing out on a spot. Booking online or by phone adds a £2.50 fee, which you can avoid by paying in person or joining as a member.

Can I bring a baby to a normal film?

Under-12-months can go into any U or PG screening before 5pm for free. After 5pm babies aren't allowed into any screening at all.

What's the difference between Baby Club and Toddler Club?

Baby Club is for under-12-months with the sound down and soft lighting. Toddler Club is for ages 1 to 5, has allocated seating, and each ticket counts as two, one for the adult and one for the child.

What if my child can't sit still through a film?

Try a Relaxed Screening. Lights stay low, sound is reduced, there are no trailers, and you're free to move around and make noise.

Can we get a refund if plans change?

Bookings are non-refundable, but you can exchange for a different time as long as it's more than 24 hours before the screening.

What's there to eat?

The bar and Spielburger kitchen do burgers, hot food, snacks and desserts, and there's waiter service to your seat if you don't want to queue.
