What it’s like

American pool, tech darts, crazy pool and karaoke booths under one roof, but it's strictly an over-18s night out, not a family venue.

This one's for the grown-ups, not the kids. Roxy Ball Room on Boar Lane runs American pool, ping pong, tech darts, tech shuffle, crazy pool and karaoke booths across the venue, and it's a Challenge 25, over-18s only spot. If you were hoping for a rainy-day activity to bring the kids along to, this isn't it.

Pricing works on peak and off-peak rates, so a game of American pool is £18 an hour off-peak or £20 at peak times, and most of the other activities sit around £8 to £10 a person per hour off-peak. There's also a Mix and Match option if you fancy trying a couple of things, £18 for two activities or £24 for three per person, which works out better value than booking each one separately.

Food runs to American-style pizzas, burgers, wings and sides, with cocktails, beers, ciders and mocktails behind the bar. Everything's card only, so leave the cash at home. Some of the games, including beer pong, crazy pool and tech darts, are up a flight of stairs with no lift, around 20 steps, so it's not a great fit if stairs are a problem for anyone in your group.

Opening hours stretch late, midnight or later Thursday to Saturday, and earlier in the week they open from 3pm. Booking gaming tables online is recommended since walk-ins aren't guaranteed a table, though drinking tables are more first come, first served.

Plan your visit

Is this suitable for kids?

No, it's over-18s only with a Challenge 25 policy, so no children or teenagers allowed in at all.

Do we need to book?

For the games tables, booking online is strongly recommended as walk-ins aren't guaranteed a spot. Drinking tables are generally first come, first served or can be booked.

How much does it cost?

It depends what you're playing. American pool is £18 to £20 an hour, ping pong £16 to £18, and things like darts, karaoke and crazy pool run £8 to £10 a person per hour, with off-peak being cheaper.

Is there a cheaper way to try a few games?

The Mix and Match deal gets you two activities for £18 a person or three for £24, which beats paying for each one separately.

What food is there?

American-style pizzas, burgers, chicken wings and sides, plus a full bar including cocktails and mocktails.

Can I pay by cash?

The bars are cashless, so you'll need a card.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

There's an accessible toilet on the first floor, but no customer lift up there, so it's around 20 stairs to reach it. A few activities like beer pong, crazy pool and tech darts are only reachable via steps too.

What are the opening hours?

Monday to Wednesday it's 3pm to 11pm, Thursday 3pm to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from midday to half past midnight. Hours can shift around school holidays and bank holidays.

Is there a dress code?

Sportswear including football shirts and joggers isn't allowed. Fancy dress is fine as long as it's kept tasteful.

Can we book beer pong in advance?

Beer pong can be booked online, and there are also walk-in only tables for it.
