What it’s like
A free contemporary art gallery in the city centre, open most days, with a new exhibition landing this October.
This is a proper gallery rather than a hands-on kids' space, so it suits a family visit where you're happy wandering round looking at things together rather than expecting activity trails or a soft play corner. Entry's free, which makes it an easy one to slot into a day out without worrying about ticket costs eating into the budget.
It's currently closed while they install the next show, Nocturnal Melody by Umi Ishihara, reopening Friday 9 October with a preview from 6 to 8pm. Once open, hours are 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday and a later start of midday on Sundays, so a lazy Sunday morning won't catch you out.
Buggy access runs throughout the building, and there's wheelchair access to all spaces with an accessible toilet down on the basement floor via lift. Parking on Thomas Street is pay and display and fairly limited, so if you're driving in it's worth having a plan B, though Blue Badge bays are available on High Street and Salmon Street. The free Metroshuttle bus 2 from Piccadilly to Shudehill is probably the easier bet if you're coming from the station.
