What it’s like
Sixty minutes locked in a themed room together, cracking codes and clues as a private team with no strangers thrown in.
You get an hour on the clock once the Games Master shuts the door, working through clues, codes and puzzles as a team. Before that there's a safety briefing so you know the rules and where the emergency exit is, and afterwards a debrief plus a complimentary photo, which is a nice touch for a birthday group. All told the site reckons on about an hour and a half door to door, so it's not a quick pop-in.
It's booked as a private room. That matters if you've got a nervous nine-year-old who doesn't fancy being paired with strangers. The minimum age is 9, and from 9 to 11 they need an adult or the Games Master with them inside the room, while 12 to 15 year olds need an adult somewhere on the premises or within five minutes. Sixteen and up can go it alone.
The one real catch for this branch is the basement stairs. Shepherd's Bush isn't step-free, so if wheelchair access matters you'd want to look at their Hammersmith or Islington rooms instead, or ring ahead to talk it through. Phones stay in your pocket once you're inside, partly to keep the mystery intact and partly because the signal down there is rubbish anyway.
Turning up late eats into your actual game time rather than pushing the clock back, which is worth knowing if you're planning a big group with a toddler in tow needing a nappy change first. Booking's online, and last-minute slots can sometimes be sorted over the phone if you're desperate.

Plan your visit
How long does it actually take?
Around an hour and a half all in, with the puzzle itself being 60 minutes. Turn up 15 minutes early for check-in or you'll eat into your game time.
What's the minimum age?
Nine. Nine to eleven year olds need an adult or the Games Master in the room with them, and twelve to fifteens need an adult on site or nearby.
Do we need to book ahead?
Yes, it's booked online by location, game and time slot. Last-minute slots can sometimes be arranged by phone if you're stuck.
Is it wheelchair accessible?
Not this branch. Shepherd's Bush is down a set of basement stairs with no step-free route, so ring ahead if that's a problem and ask about Hammersmith or Islington instead.
Is it a private room or shared with other groups?
Private. Once you book, the room's exclusively yours for that slot, no strangers mixed in.
What if someone needs to leave partway through?
There's an emergency exit for a loo break or if anyone feels claustrophobic. It just means that run doesn't count as a win.
