What it’s like
Locked in a themed room with your team for an hour, racing to crack the puzzles before time runs out.
You and your team get shut in a themed room and have to find and solve clues to get out, with around 60 minutes on the clock once the door closes. Add in the briefing, waivers and a pre-game drink beforehand, plus time in the lounge and bar after, and the whole thing runs closer to 90 minutes. It's built for teams of two to six, and if you're a bigger group than that the site suggests splitting into two teams and racing each other, which sounds like the fun option rather than the fallback.
This is an 8-plus game and PG in tone, so it's not one for younger children. Under-16s need a paying adult in the team, which is worth knowing if you were hoping to drop the kids off and go for a coffee. Some of the puzzles need two people working together, so a lone teenager in a group of adults might find themselves waiting on someone else to finish a task.
There's also City Hunt, an outdoor version with digital maps and puzzle packs that gets you out and about rather than stuck in a room, running 1.5 to 2 hours and open to all ages, with under-8s going free alongside two paying adults. It's the better call if the weather's decent and you fancy something less claustrophobic, though they'll switch it to an indoor game if conditions turn nasty rather than just cancelling on you.
Pricing drops the more of you there are, so a six-person team works out cheapest per head. It's card only, no cash, and you'll want to book ahead since it clearly runs as a booking-only setup. Wheelchair access is on offer for many of the rooms, up to two wheelchair users per room, and a registered carer supporting a player gets in free.
