What it’s like

A wellbeing centre in Derby running yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, meditation and talking therapies, with classes booked straight through each instructor.

This one's for the adults, not a family day out. Elephant Rooms is a wellbeing centre where you can drop into yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi and Qigong, join the weekly meditation, or work through talking and complementary therapies with a practitioner. Wellbeing groups and courses run alongside the one-off classes, so there's a way in whether you want a single session or something more structured.

The booking setup is a bit different to most places. The centre itself doesn't run the diary, each therapist, class instructor or facilitator manages their own bookings, and their contact details sit under 'Meet the Team' on the website. It's an extra step compared to booking one class through one venue, but it does mean you're booking directly with the person who'll actually be teaching or treating you.

If you're not sure which therapy suits what you're dealing with, there's information under 'Talking Therapies' on the site, or you can just ask them to point you the right way. Worth knowing too that you don't need to be booked onto anything to visit. They'll let you sit in the space with a tea or coffee from the kitchen, no charge, just tidy up after yourself and stay mindful of any classes running, and small donations are appreciated.

Wheelchair access covers most of the centre if you give them notice before you arrive, though the studio space is upstairs and isn't accessible. Keeping up with what's on is mostly a social media and newsletter job, since the website update schedule is looser than that.

Plan your visit

How do I book a class or therapy session?

You book directly with the individual therapist, instructor or facilitator rather than through the centre itself. Their contact details are listed under 'Meet the Team' on the website.

Can I just visit without booking anything?

Yes, you're welcome to sit in the space and make yourself tea or coffee in the kitchen. There's no charge, though they appreciate small donations and ask you to tidy up after yourself and be mindful of classes in progress.

Is there wheelchair access?

Most of the centre is accessible if you let them know in advance you're coming. The studio space upstairs isn't accessible by wheelchair.

How do I find out which therapy is right for me?

There's information under 'Talking Therapies' on the website, or you can get in touch and they'll point you in the right direction.

How do I know what classes are on?

The website gets updated but social media is the more reliable way to keep track, and there's a monthly newsletter for news and events.
