What it’s like
Paint or shape your own pottery, from bud vases to wax melters, at workshops beginners can just turn up to and try.
You sit down at a proper workshop and make something you can actually use afterwards, a bud vase, a wax melter, whatever's on offer that day. The site's clear that these are beginner-friendly, so nobody's expecting you to know how to throw a pot before you walk in.
They run Wednesday to Saturday from 11 to 4, and Sundays 11 to 3, across a few different Sheffield spots including Leah's Yard in the city centre and Kelham Island. Worth picking whichever location suits your journey, since they're not all in the same part of town. Booking is required, and here's the catch: full payment is taken up front and it's non-refundable and non-transferable, so don't book a slot you're not sure about.
Once you've made your piece, it goes off for glazing and firing, and they say to allow up to six weeks before it's ready to collect. That's a long wait if you were hoping to give it as a gift the same week, so plan ahead if the timing matters.
If you fancy something bigger, they do private workshops for baby showers, hen dos or family get-togethers at £39 a head, plus 45p a mile if you're outside the S1 or S8 postcodes. Dogs are welcome too, for paw print appointments, and they say more than one dog can come to the same session.
