What it’s like

A bookshop for browsing picture books, early readers and young adult fiction, with author talks running through the year.

This is a proper browsing bookshop, not a soft play with a few books on a shelf. The children's section covers picture books for the youngest ones through to early readers, confident readers and young adult fiction, so there's somewhere for a toddler who wants to point at pictures and somewhere for a twelve-year-old who's outgrown the picture books but isn't ready for adult fiction yet.

Author talks and events run here too, which is the bit worth building a visit around if your child has a favourite writer. These tend to draw a crowd, so turning up a little early to get settled seems sensible.

There's a gift shop element as well, useful if you're after a book as a present rather than just a browse. It's the sort of shop that rewards a bit of time rather than a five-minute dash in and out, and a child who's picking their own next read can take a while to decide.
