This is a bookshop that leans hard into the "children's" bit of its name. There's storytime every Thursday and Friday at 11am, plus a Saturday session at 10am, so if you're local you could realistically make it a weekly thing rather than a one-off outing.

Beyond the regular readings, they run book clubs over the weekend and put on author events and writing workshops, which is a nice step up once your child's past the picture-book stage and wants to talk about what they've read rather than just listen. It's a small, specific kind of outing rather than a big day out, so go in expecting an hour or so browsing and listening rather than a full afternoon.

It's open long hours through the week, 9.15am to 5.45pm Monday to Saturday, and a shorter Sunday slot from 11am to 4pm, so there's flexibility if storytime doesn't fit your morning. Bank holiday hours shift about, and they'd rather you rang to check than turned up to a locked door.

Getting there is straightforward if you're on the Northern Line, with Highgate and East Finchley both close by, and it's not far off the Piccadilly and Victoria lines either via Bounds Green or Finsbury Park.
