What it’s like

A castle estate where kids try high ropes, archery, bushcraft, mud runs and fishing in one visit.

This isn't just a castle to walk round quietly. The estate's turned itself into an activity ground: Tree Top Trials for the high ropes obstacle course, archery, bushcraft, mud runs, crate stacking and fishing all sit on the site's own list of things to do. It's a proper mix of the physical and the hands-on, so you're not just trailing round a stately home hoping the kids don't touch anything.

Crate stacking and mud runs are the ones that'll get the loudest reaction, and archery's the sort of thing that sounds simple until you're stood there trying to hit anything at all. Bushcraft and fishing give it a slower, more focused pace if the high energy stuff has worn everyone out.

Food's sorted at The Laird's Table Restaurant, which serves Scottish produce. Worth knowing it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in April, so if you're planning an early spring visit that's a day to work around.

The Laird's Table Restaurant serving Scottish produce, closed Mondays and Tuesdays in April
  • The Laird's Table Restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays through April
  • Activities span from the physical (mud runs, crate stacking) to the quieter (bushcraft, fishing), so there's a pace shift built in
  • Archery and high ropes are both on offer, so it's worth allowing time for more than one activity in a visit

Is this more for older kids or younger ones?

There's no set age range given, but the mix of high ropes, archery and mud runs feels geared towards kids old enough to take on a physical challenge rather than toddlers.
