What it’s like

Pick a piece of blank pottery, choose your colours and paint it at your own pace in a studio that's closed Monday to Wednesday.

You choose a piece from what's on offer, then sit down and paint it however you like. There's no rush written into the format, it's just you, a brush and whatever colours take your fancy, so a first go with a five-year-old and a more careful hour with an older kid who wants it perfect both work.

Booking's required rather than optional, and they take a deposit upfront that comes off your final bill. That's fair enough given the mess and materials involved, but it does mean you can't just wander past and decide on a whim. If your plans change, cancellations are fine up to 24 hours before, so there's a bit of breathing room if the day goes sideways.

Opening hours are worth checking against your week. It's closed Monday to Wednesday entirely, open Thursday to Saturday from 10 till 5, and Sunday has shorter hours, 11 till 4. There's food on site too, so a painting session can turn into a proper sit-down bit of the day rather than a quick errand.
