What it’s like

A proper theatre stage for pantomimes and family shows, set in Snibston Colliery Park with free parking outside the door.

This is a real theatre doing panto the old-fashioned way, plus family shows like The Upbeat Beatles and a youth theatre for the older kids. Goldilocks and the Three Bears runs as a proper hour of performance, a 20-minute interval for the loo queue and an ice cream, then another 50 minutes to finish it off. That's a decent length for a family panto, long enough to feel like an event without losing a restless six-year-old halfway through.

Tickets are £18 across the board for Goldilocks, adult or child, which is straightforward if not cheap for a family of four. The Upbeat Beatles is £24 a head. There's no messing about with cash here either, it's card or mobile payment only, so don't turn up with a fiver expecting to buy a programme.

Doors open 45 minutes before the show, which is worth using if you've got kids who need time to settle before the lights go down. Parking's free and there's plenty of it around Snibston Colliery Park, with disabled spaces and electric charging points if you need them. Book carefully though, because tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable, so a change of plan on the day means you've lost the money.

If you've got an eight-year-old who fancies more than watching, Century Youth Theatre runs weekly in term time for ages 8 and up. Groups of ten or more get a 10% discount, handy if you're organising a school trip or a big birthday outing.
