What it’s like

Woodland paths, wood sculptures to hunt down and a wildflower meadow to wander through, all free to get into.

This is a walking and exploring park rather than a playground one. The draw is the woodland itself: paths winding through trees, wood sculptures dotted about for kids to spot, and a wildflower meadow that's a proper change of scene once you come out of the trees. Older toddlers and school-age kids who like a bit of a ramble will get the most from it, especially if you turn the sculptures into a spotting game as you go.

There's no playground equipment here, which is worth knowing before you set off if your kids are expecting swings and slides. What you get instead is space to walk and look, and most of the footpaths are fine for pushchairs and wheelchairs, so it's not a bumpy trek if you've got a buggy or need step-free routes.

Getting there is easy enough. There's a small free car park on site with some extra parking on the road nearby, and bus stops on Spixworth Road, St Faith's Road and Chartwell Road if you're coming without a car. Dogs are welcome too, and the site even has its own pages for dog owners.

It costs nothing to get in, which makes it an easy one to drop into for an hour without much planning. Just don't expect climbing frames, this is one for legs and eyes rather than equipment.
