Calverton Leisure Centre

What it’s like

An 18 metre pool with an inflatable obstacle course, plus a sports hall and outdoor pitch for the non-swimmers in the group.

The pool's 18 metres, which is enough for a proper splash about without it turning into a swimming lesson every time. There are sessions for babies and toddlers, and lessons that carry on up to adult level, so it's not just a free-for-all in the water. The Xterminator inflatable obstacle course is the one to mention to the kids beforehand, it sits in the pool and looks like the kind of thing that eats an hour without anyone noticing.

Out of the water there's a bouncy castle with soft play shapes and a football goal, plus a sports hall doing table tennis, badminton, squash and indoor football depending on the session. If it's dry, the outdoor rubber crumb pitch is there for a kickabout too.

A full price swim is £6.80. Opening hours run 6:30am to 9pm on weekdays and 8am to 5:30pm at weekends, though the pool itself runs sessions within that rather than being open swim the whole time. Parking's free on site with accessible bays by the entrance, and the building's got level access throughout, including a wheelchair accessible pool viewing area and a lowered reception desk.

Birthday parties use the sports hall and pool, with options like the Xterminator inflatable, a Gladiator Tournament or the Sports Fun House. Members get up to 15% off party packages, which is worth knowing if you're already using the place regularly.
