What it’s like

A proper concert hall near Sloane Square that opens its doors to under-7s only for its family events.

This isn't a soft play with a violin in the corner, it's a working concert hall, and that shapes the whole visit. Outside of family events, under-7s aren't admitted at all, so this is one for kids who can sit still through a performance rather than toddlers wanting to run about. At family events themselves, anyone over two needs their own ticket, and under-14s need an adult with them.

Prices swing a lot depending on what's on. You'll see family-friendly tickets from £14.50, but a big-name orchestra or comedy night can run to £39.50 or £49.50 a head. Whatever you book, add £4.50 for the online booking fee, unless you're an ENCORE member or you book in person, in which case it's waived. Booking ahead is the only way in; this isn't a turn-up-and-see kind of venue.

Don't bring a picnic. Food and drink from outside isn't allowed in, though you can take snacks and drinks bought on-site into the auditorium, as long as you're not tucking in mid-performance. If you've got coats or small bags, the cloakroom takes them for £2 an item, card only, and it's open from when the foyer opens until half an hour after the show ends. Big bags and suitcases aren't welcome, so travel light.

It's about as easy to reach as a central London venue gets, two minutes from Sloane Square station on the District and Circle lines. The hall has a hearing loop, toilets and wheelchair access, and bag searches are sometimes in operation, so build in a few extra minutes at the door.
