What it’s like
Free gallery and sculpture centre in Bury, though roof works mean reduced hours and less on show right now.
Free entry is the headline here, and it stays free whatever else is going on. There's a sculpture centre alongside the main gallery, a gift shop to poke round on the way out, and a lift to every floor if you've got a buggy or a wheelchair to think about.
The catch at the moment is the roof works. The site is upfront that this means restricted access to parts of the building and fewer pieces from the collection on display, since some of the gallery work has been moved into storage for safety. The foyer, museum, archives and sculpture centre are expected to stay open, just on shorter hours than usual, so it is more of a drop-in-for-an-hour visit than a whole afternoon right now.
Opening is Tuesday to Friday 10 till 5, and Saturday 10 till half 4, with no Sunday or Monday listed. There's no parking on site.
Access is properly thought through: there's a ramp to the right of the main entrance on Moss Street and a lift to all floors, plus baby change facilities if you need them.
