Bridge 8 Hub
WHERE
Edinburgh
What it’s like
A canal-side spot for paddling, bike riding and a wood-fired sauna and plunge pool by the water.
This one's more about the water and the towpath than any big attraction. Kids can paddle, get on bikes, or just walk and run about along the canal, and from January 2025 there's Bridge 8 Heat, a wood-fire sauna and plunge pool area that's more of a grown-up draw but sits right there as part of the place.
It's not the sort of venue with a big ticket list or a car park to plan around, from what they set out it reads as a low-key outdoor space you drop into rather than a day you book. The café only runs Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm, so a weekday visit means bringing your own snacks and not relying on a coffee stop. The Hub itself is shut on weekdays in spring, which is worth noting if you were picturing a midweek outing.
There's a community feel to it, the sauna space in particular reads as something built for adults to use together rather than a kids' activity, so it's more a nice-to-have while the children paddle or cycle nearby. Given there's no age range listed, use your judgement on whether your child's ready for a canal-side visit where the water is the main feature.
Plan your visit
What can kids actually do there?
Paddling, bike riding, and general walking and running along the canal. There's also a community sauna space, though that's more of an adult thing.
Is the café open every day?
No, just Saturdays and Sundays, 10am to 4pm. Weekdays you'll want to bring your own food and drink.
Can we visit on a weekday?
The Hub is closed on weekdays in spring, so a weekend visit is your safer bet.
What's Bridge 8 Heat?
A wood-fire sauna and plunge pool area that opened from January 2025, sitting alongside the rest of the site.
