What it’s like
A city centre craft studio where teens can arm knit a blanket, cast jesmonite trays or make a soap and candle set from scratch.
This one's for the older kids, not the under-10 crowd. Most workshops are 13 and up, with a few opened out to 12, so it's really a teenager's afternoon out rather than a family craft session. Think arm knitting a giant blanket, casting jesmonite into coasters or trays, making your own soap or soy candles, or bling-ing up a cowboy hat with gems and foils. There's also bottle lamp making, pom pom wreaths and a felt making workshop, so if you've got a teenager who's into making things rather than just watching a screen, there's plenty here to point them at.
Prices run from £25 for candle painting up to £75 for the arm knit blanket workshop, and you need to book ahead for all of them. Sessions run 2 to 3 hours depending on the workshop and numbers, which is a decent chunk of an afternoon, worth knowing if you're planning round anything else that day. It's BYOB too, so a hen do or a group of older teens can bring their own drinks, with glasses provided and soft drinks on the house.
The studio's at Central Chambers on Hope Street, five minutes from Buchanan Street underground and right across from Central Station. Parking nearby is on-street and limited to two hours, which won't cover a full workshop, so the NCP on Mitchell Street a few minutes' walk away is the better bet if you're staying the whole session. Worth flagging that there are steps to reach the wheelchair lift, so if access is a factor you'll want to give them advance notice.
For a birthday, hen do or small group event they'll run private parties from the studio or another venue entirely, minimum six people, with a deposit needed to hold a weekend date.
