What it’s like
Free rhymetimes, storytimes and a book club in a small local library, with membership free from birth.
Rhymetime is the main event for the under-threes here: a session of songs and rhymes with a parent or carer joining in, which the library reckons helps babies pick up language and a love of stories early. It costs nothing, and neither does joining, so you can turn up, get a card sorted on the spot, and come back every week without it costing a penny.
Older children get storytimes, and there's a coffee morning and a book club if you're after adult company while the kids do their thing. It's a small, indoor space with a hearing loop, wheelchair access and wifi, which makes it an easy stop if you need somewhere calm rather than a big day out.
The catch is the opening hours. Wednesday and Thursday you get 10am to 3pm, but Friday and Saturday it shuts at 1pm, so an after-lunch visit on those two days is out. There's no booking link listed.
