Libraries in Derby

Rhymetime is the thing to know about here. Alvaston Library and Learning Centre, a few minutes out from the centre, runs free sessions for babies and toddlers alongside a decent browse of children's books. Allestree Library, closer in, does the same for the youngest ones and lends out sensory board books too, though its opening hours are short so it pays to check when the doors are actually open. Blagreaves Library rounds things out with rhymetimes, storytimes and a book club, and it has toilets, a hearing loop, parking and wifi, useful if you're staying a while. All three are free to join from birth, so cost is not the thing that decides it. If you have a very young baby, Allestree or Alvaston will suit the rhymetime and storytime routine best. If you want somewhere set up for a longer visit, with parking and step-free access, Blagreaves is the one to head for. None of these are outings that need much planning, just a library card and a short trip across Derby.
