What it’s like
Kids and families get stuck into proper art projects with a working artist, from Friday workshops to holiday camps and birthday parties.
This is a working studio rather than a paint-splash-and-go setup. On Fridays there's a drop-in family workshop where an adult and child make something together for £10, with extra children joining in for £5 each, so it's an easy one to add to the end of a school week without much planning. During term time there are after-school sessions for 5 to 11 year olds and weekly evening sessions for 12 to 19 year olds, plus holiday art camps when school's out.
Everybody comes away with a finished piece, which matters more than it sounds. It's the thing that gets stuck on the fridge, or given as a present, rather than another abstract splodge that ends up in the recycling. Birthday parties follow the same idea: a professional artist runs the session, all materials are supplied, and you choose the project in advance. Twelve kids for two hours costs £180, on Saturdays either 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm, and you're allowed to bring your own decorations and stop ten minutes early for cake and singing.
One rule worth knowing before you go: no food in the studio itself, so factor that into party planning if you were picturing a full spread on the tables. Booking for parties is by email rather than an online form, and they'll send you a booking form once you've got in touch to reserve the date. Opening hours are a bit later on Mondays, from midday, and 10am to 6pm the rest of the week Tuesday to Friday.

Do we need to book?
For parties you email admin@artisankidz.co.uk to get a booking form and lock in a date. There's no online booking link, so it's a case of emailing ahead.
What ages is this for?
After-school sessions run for 5 to 11 year olds and there are weekly evening sessions for 12 to 19 year olds. Younger children and families can join the Friday drop-in workshops together.
Can we eat there?
No, food isn't allowed in the studio, so if you're planning a party you'll need to think about where cake and food happen instead.
What happens at a birthday party?
Your child and their guests work on a chosen project with a professional artist, with all materials supplied. Everyone takes home a finished piece, and you can end the party ten minutes early for cake and singing.
