What it’s like
Painting glazed pottery or having a go on the wheel, for kids six and up who fancy something to take home.
This is a studio for pottery painting and wheel throwing, not a soft play with a craft table bolted on. Kids pick a piece, glaze it themselves, and then wait. That's the bit to get your head round before you book: your glazed item goes off to be fired and takes two to four weeks to come back, so it's a present for future-you rather than an afternoon souvenir.
It suits six and up, which tracks, since a wobbly wheel and a glaze pot aren't really a job for a toddler. Everything runs on tickets rather than turn-up-and-play, and there are no regular drop-in sessions. Opening hours are a bit patchy across the week too, Wednesday and Friday are full days, Thursday finishes at 3pm, and Saturday doesn't open till noon.
Birthday parties are clearly the bigger business here. Pottery painting parties run 90 minutes and cover up to eight kids, wheel throwing is the same length for up to six, and hand building sessions run two hours and need a minimum of seven. Worth knowing that firing can crack or chip a finished piece and there's no refund if that happens, just the offer of another class or a replacement item, which stings a bit if it was meant to be a gift.
There's a ramp into the studio, so buggies and wheelchairs aren't an issue getting in, but there's no accessible toilet, which is worth knowing if that's a dealbreaker for your visit.

How much does it cost?
Pottery painting parties are £195 for up to eight children with extra kids at £23 each. Wheel throwing parties are £195 for up to six, extra kids at £25 each, and hand building works out at £65 per person with a minimum of seven.
Do we need to book?
Everything's ticketed, there's no turning up and joining a session on the day. Drop-ins do pop up occasionally around funded community projects, so their mailing list is the way to catch those.
What age is it suitable for?
Six and up, which makes sense given it's glaze pots and a working wheel rather than finger painting.
When do we get the finished pots back?
Two to four weeks after your session, once they've been through the kiln and glazed. They'll hang onto finished pieces for up to eight weeks total before that.
What if the pot cracks or chips during firing?
No refunds if that happens, unfortunately. You can book another class or buy a replacement piece instead.
Is it accessible if we've got a wheelchair or buggy?
There's a ramp into the studio, so getting in isn't a problem. There's no accessible toilet though.
